This is one idea for the background for my flash animation. Ill probally change it, I dunno.

Flash Project
For our project in flash weve been set the theme 'My life in Falmouth' We have to create a flash animation based on our sound recordings of other people talking about somthing to do with falmouth. I suppose It's kinda like creature comforts.. but not.
It doesn't have to be related to me but I wanted to show my own experiences in Falmouth as it will be more personal. So seeing as I spend most of my time in falmouth town I thought Id make my animation about going out on the beer.
So I went on over to my friends flat in O block whilst they were having a few drinks before going out and asked them to talk about what they usually do on a night out.
I'm going to animate them as a group of empty glasses on a pub table as different people tend to drink different drinks.. therefore I can give my characters a lot of personality as the different types of glasses resemble different types of people.
I recorded my sound before doing the designs of the characters, so I can listen to the voices and draw them to fit the personality they portray.
Here a few rough sketches of what the characters will look like.
I chose to draw a beer mug because the guy who did the voice has a very northern accent and I can really imagine him as an old man.. so I gave him a big moustache and thick jolly eyebrows.
The next character I drew as martini glass as the voice sounds quite posh. I drew her with an olive aswell, which I could make speak or laugh along with the others.
I made the wine glass look a bit more common as it is drank more often by students and the characters voice sounds a bit chavvy (sorry Rach!)
For the last character I drew an empty shot glass. I want the audience to know that it was a tequila shot, so I drew a crazy lemon slice next to it. I wanted the shot glass to look a bit mad and drunk as it suits the type of drink.. and the characters voice.

Finished affter effects project
This is the finished version, the quality is pretty rubbish, but I don't know how to make it look good without being 456375478GB, but it has to be in tomorrow morning, so that'll have to do :/

Motion Graphics
For our motion graphics lesson we are learning how to use Adobe After Effects, Iv used it a bit before, but never actually made something half decent in it. Our project is to create an animation starting with a picture of a smiley face, and ending with a smiley face, anything can happen in between as long as we use After Effects. All of our animations are gunna be put together on a show real and played in Q bar! exciting :D
For my idea I want the camera to zoom into the smiley face's eye, into a crazy tunnel, then come out his other eye. I followed a tutorial to create a tunnel effect, but now i gotta work out how to make it look like its going through his eye hole.

Stranger in the day
For my final part of my experimental sketchbook, I chose to do 'stranger in the day' where you have to ask a stranger what to draw each day and draw it.
2D Maggie walk
Here is my finished 2D animation of maggie walking, I was pleased with the outcome as I think it really does look like Maggie walking
Breakdown
To make it a bit easier, I took stills from the video at each walking position- Extended position, passing position etc.
Mags walking
Now I have the baisic principles of a walk cycle sorted, Im going to animate an actual person walking. I filmed Maggie walking along so i can use it as a reference whilst animating.
3D Monkey Walk
I animated a monkey walking in Maya, I was really pleased with it and i spend hours and hours on it..... and i happened to loose it, great :(
If I find it ill post it sometime

The Toy Nativity Story
I was going to take squiddy out again continue with the 'Toy Story' brief as I didn't do many drawings before. However as it was all snowy and near christmas time I ended up making a fullon nativity story using toys.
Background Project
The next background I had to create was an indoor background. As the script in my storyboard has no interior locations, i used the inside of the forest as this project was mainly focused on lighting. I decided to use a beam of light coming through the trees as the light source needed to be direct.
2D Walk Cycle
Learning how to animate a walk cycle is one of the trickiest things to do because when you walk, literally every body part moves in a different way. Also no two people walk the same, you can give so much character to a person by the way you make them walk. However to learn the baisic steps of a walk cycle I first animated a simple stick man.
I think i got all the positions right, however I think I should have used a lot more frames as it is way too fast and bobs up and down way to much.

Background project
One of the 3o do was a layout backgrounds I had to create was a layout for an animation background. Here is some of the drawings I did for research.
Character designs for storyboard
Anatomical drawings
As a study for life drawing I drew some anatomical pictures of the human body, looking at muscle structure.
Deeee
Moving on from balls and chains, we were given a rig of a simple person to get the hang of using a rig in Maya and adjusting the limbs of a person to make them look lifelike. I found that acting out the pose myself first made it much easier than just trying to figure out how humans act on my own.
Heres a picture of one of the poses I made.

Cubert double take
Cubey doing a double take. I think I should have held the last pose for a lot longer as it is not obvious that hes seen somthing super amazing.
Ball and chain
Using the aniticipation and overlap skills and techniques I've learn't in the 2D lesson, I animated a ball and chain swinging in Maya.
I was pleased with the end result, I think it looks really realistic, however I think it ends a bit abruptly, it could have dangled there for a bit longer.

Reaction
For Cubey's next adventure, I had to show emotion in animation. He had to stand confidently in the center of a stage until something happens off screen, which he reacts to. As Cubey has no facial features I have to use body language and exaggeration to show emotion.
Cubey was supposed to have smelt something bad, so he falls to the floor, so i made him hold his nose and waft the air, however I didnt use a good silhouette so it didnt look as good. I should have had him standing side on so you can see his arm moving properly, and exaggerated it loads.

From the real to the surreal
For the next part of my sketch book, I drew everyday objects with a surreal twist to them, until I got to the last day and just drew some different moustaches :)
